Christopher Seyer

Christopher A. Seyer, 48, of Kelso, Mo. passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 19, 2013 at St. Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Mo.

Chris was born March 26, 1965 in Cape Girardeau to Joseph A. and Frieda Brockmeyer Seyer. He and Joni Y. Gibson were married September 9, 1990 at Cape Girardeau.

He was a member and class president of the Notre Dame High School Class of 1983 and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing.

Chris was employed by Metro Business College and Computerland before his 22 year career at Southeast Missouri State University. In 2012 he chose to make a career change which lead him to his current job with Ford & Sons Funeral Home where he served with great compassion and skill as a funeral director and pre-need consultant. All of us who knew Chris, can commonly say, “He was a stranger to no one.”

His character was enthusiastically reflected throughout his services to our community. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church of Kelso and served as president of the school board at St. Augustine School. He was owner of Seyer’s Kelso Kwik Stop in Kelso. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, Kelso Jaycees, and Business Networking International (BNI). He was involved with the Chambers of Commerce in Benton and Cape Girardeau where he was most recently recognized for joining The Chamber Ambassador’s Committee.

Chris is survived by his wife, Joni Y. Seyer of Kelso; son and daughters, Jacob Christopher Seyer, Taylor Marie Seyer, and Jordan Elizabeth Seyer all of Kelso; mother, Frieda Barbara Seyer of Cape Girardeau; siblings, Beverly (Jerome) Essner of Kelso, Walter (Kathy) Seyer of Kelso, Jeff Seyer of Edwardsville, Ill., Ken (Debbie) Seyer of Jefferson City, Mo., Roger (Kari) Seyer of New York, N.Y., Steve (Jane) Seyer of Shelton, Conn., Teresa (Scott) Givens of Cape Girardeau. He will also be missed by many many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews, co-workers and friends. He was preceded in death by most recently, his father, Joseph A. Seyer and sister-in-law, Becky Seyer.
