Marcus Ressel

Marcus F. Ressel, 92, of Kelso died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 3, 1924, in Illmo to Otto Joseph and Lorena Schlosser Ressel. He married Georgianna Enderle on Oct. 9, 1948.

He worked for Compas/Burger Hardware for 28 years and later started the family business, Kelso Sales & Service, in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, Knights of Columbus Council 6420, St. Joseph Assembly 4th Degree in Scott City and Veterans of Foreign War Post 6407 in Scott City. He served on the Kelso C-7 School Board for 32 years. He sang in the church choir and was a Eucharistic minister.

Mark loved his family and liked to share his many war stories with anyone who would listen. He enjoyed playing cards and music.

He is survived by his wife, Georgianna Ressel; four children, Stephen (Sandra ) Ressel, Annette (Mike Ervin) Ressel, Colette (Paul) Hendrickson and Mark (Jane) Ressel; grandchildren, Ben Ressel; Clint (Audra) Ressel and their daughter, Abigail; Jody Ressel and Philip Ressel; Anthony (Sara) Ressel and their children, Andrew, Brendan and Bennett; Jonathon (Sabrina) Ressel and their children, Martina and Stella; Katie (Blake) Urhahn and their son, Abe; Alex (Megan) Ressel and their son, Tyler, and Grant Ressel; a brother, Jim (Ester) Ressel; three sisters, Valeria Mirgeaux, Judy Stevens and Joan (Joe) Gleason, and a sister-in-law, Cecilia Arnold. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild; three sisters, Mary Ann (Richard) Weber, Gertrude (Otis) Williams and Lee (Jim) Jones; a brother, Lucas (Alice) Ressel; two brothers-in-law, Richard Arnold and Paul (Mary Ann) Enderle, and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Ralph) Heisserer.
